The short answer
Yes — if you already own an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. At the rate of October 28, 2026, even an RTX 3060 brings in about $36.80 a month, and electricity at $0.10 per kWh eats about $12 of that. RTX 40 and RTX 50 cards stay profitable even with very expensive power. Buying a graphics card specifically for mining is an investment with risk: income depends on the coin price, and nobody can guarantee it.
Why nobody mines Bitcoin at home anymore
When people say “mining is dead”, they usually mean Bitcoin. It really has been mined only by ASIC miners for years — specialised machines that perform a single operation thousands of times faster than any graphics card. A home computer is not part of that race.
But besides Bitcoin there are coins whose algorithms are designed for ordinary hardware. Graphics cards mine Pearl (PRL), and processors mine Monero (XMR) on the RandomX algorithm. FlowHash picks what to mine on each device and adds all the income to one balance, so you don’t need to deal with pools and wallets.
What a graphics card earns at different rates
Income and profit when running around the clock at the rate of October 28, 2026 (the figures are recalculated at the current rate when you open the page). Profit is income minus electricity at different rates: $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per kWh are roughly €0.045, €0.09 and €0.18, or £0.04, £0.075 and £0.15. The last column is the rate at which the card breaks even.
| Graphics card | Income / mo | Profit at $0.05 | at $0.10 | at $0.20 | Breaks even up to, $/kWh |

Hashrate and power draw are average estimates; real figures depend on the card model, cooling and settings. The full list of 100+ graphics cards and processors is in the mining calculator, and the profitability ranking is in “Best GPUs for mining”.
Electricity is the main variable
A graphics card’s income hardly depends on you, but its costs do. The formula is simple: power in watts × 24 hours × 30 days ÷ 1000 = kilowatt-hours per month. An RTX 4060 at 115 W uses about 83 kWh a month — that is $8.28 at $0.10 per kWh, while it earns $45.63.
Three ways to pay less:
- The computer is on anyway. If you are working, watching videos or downloading files, you only pay for the extra consumption, not the full wattage from the table.
- Off-peak tariff. With a time-of-use meter, night-time electricity is usually much cheaper, and nobody needs the computer at night anyway.
- Winter. All the electricity a graphics card uses turns into heat. During the heating season mining partly replaces a heater — more in “Your PC as a space heater”.
When mining definitely pays off
- You already own an RTX card: you bought it for gaming or work, and mining simply returns part of its cost.
- Your electricity rate is well below the “Breaks even up to” value — then there is a big safety margin even if the coin price drops.
- The computer already runs many hours a day.
- It is cold outside, so the heat from the computer is not wasted.
- You mine with the processor too: it adds anything from a few dollars to $25+ a month — see “CPU mining”.
When mining does not pay off
- Very expensive electricity. In some EU countries household rates reach €0.30–0.40 per kWh. At those prices, old power-hungry cards such as the RTX 3070 Ti (260 W, breaking even at about $0.29) earn almost nothing.
- A graphics card bought on credit or with your last money. Mining is not a savings account: the coin price can fall, and the payback period will grow.
- Poor cooling. A laptop on a bed or a cramped case without fans overheats, throttles and earns less.
- A hot summer with air conditioning. The air conditioner has to pump every watt of heat from the computer outside, and you pay for it twice.
- Expecting a fixed income. If someone promises guaranteed profit from mining, that is a reason to be wary, not excited.
Risks to be aware of
- Coin price. Income is credited in cryptocurrency, so in dollars it can rise or fall several times over. The figures in the tables are a snapshot of today, not a forecast.
- Network difficulty. The more miners there are, the smaller the reward for each unit of hashrate. We explain what that means in “What is hashrate”.
- Hardware wear. At normal temperatures mining is no more dangerous than gaming, but fans and thermal pads do wear out — see “Does mining damage your GPU?”.
- Scammers. “Cloud mining”, “phone mining” and bots with guaranteed income are almost always scams — learn how to spot them in “Mining scams: how to spot them”.
How to calculate it for your PC
- Open the mining calculator and select your graphics card and processor.
- Enter the electricity rate from your bill — in dollars, euros or pounds.
- Check the daily and monthly profit and the break-even rate.
- The most accurate way is to run FlowHash for a day: your account will show what your computer actually earned, not an estimate.
Bottom line
Mining in 2026 pays off for people who already have an RTX graphics card and not the most expensive electricity: at the current rate almost all RTX 30, 40 and 50 cards stay profitable even at $0.20 per kWh. The biggest factors are your electricity rate, the coin price and how many hours the computer is on anyway. Calculate your own case in the calculator and start with the hardware you already have.
